gfortran-4.8 software package provides GNU Fortran compiler, you can install in your Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install gfortran-4.8
gfortran-4.8 is installed in your system.
Make ensure the gfortran-4.8 package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep gfortran-4.8 *
You will get with gfortran-4.8 package name, version, architecture and description in a table
